Oborevwori’s Works Ministry Resets for Road Longevity
New Engineers, Renewed Mandate
DELTA State has installed fresh technical leadership in its Ministry of Works, a move aimed at strengthening project oversight and improving the lifespan of roads across the state. The appointments of Engr. Solomon Aghagba (Director of Highways) and Engr. Victor Oputa (Director of Urban Roads) mark a clear shift toward tighter supervision and engineering accountability.
Quality Over Quick Fixes
At a strategy session in Asaba, Commissioner Reuben Izeze directed ministry engineers to prioritise physical site inspections over sole reliance on GPS mapping, warning that desk-based assessments have contributed to past project inconsistencies. He linked continuous training, design compliance, and improved staff welfare to better project outcomes under the MORE Agenda.
Federal Highways and State Intervention
Aghagba acknowledged that failing federal roads remain outside state control but confirmed that Delta will escalate pressure on the Federal Controller of Works for critical repairs, while continuing selective state interventions, referencing past dualisation of major routes including Ughelli–Asaba Road.
Fast-Track, Not Fast-Fade
Both directors affirmed that ongoing bridges and delayed road projects will undergo fresh technical audits and site diagnostics, focusing on early failure prevention rather than emergency repairs after collapse.
