Oborevwori’s Performance Already Shaping 2027 Conversation In Delta — Aniagwu
DELTA State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, says the visible achievements recorded under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori have already begun shaping political conversations ahead of 2027.
Speaking as a guest on TVC’s “Politics Tonight,” Aniagwu said the administration’s spread of projects across Delta is resonating more strongly with citizens than any campaign activity. According to him, the governor has stayed focused on governance, delivering on promises in infrastructure, security, rural development and fiscal stability.
He explained that the Oborevwori administration is pushing aggressively with major road projects, bridges, expansion of health and educational facilities, and investments in human capital.
“The election is not slowing him down. He is moving steadily with the promises he made,” he said, noting that every senatorial district is currently benefitting from ongoing work.
Aniagwu identified security as one of the administration’s most remarkable achievements, saying the peace across the state has helped attract new investors.
“One major achievement is the security of lives and property. Investors are coming because Delta is peaceful,” he said.
The commissioner said top construction firms, including Julius Berger, are handling several strategic projects. Aside from the three major bridges in Warri and environs, he listed others such as: DSC Roundabout Bridge, Enerhen Junction Bridge, PTI Junction Bridge; and Slipway at Effurun Roundabout.
He added that more contracts have been awarded, including the Uromi Junction project in Agbor (Ika South), the Otovwodo Junction project in Ughelli (Ughelli North), and expansions toward the Nigerian Ports Authority axis.
Aniagwu disclosed that the DSC Roundabout and Enerhen Junction bridges are already in use, while the PTI Junction Bridge is nearing completion.
He also highlighted the completion of the 137-kilometre Koka Junction (Asaba)–Ughelli Road, which has reduced travel time to Warri to under two hours.
Other key projects include: Ohoror–Bomadi Road (over 30km), Aboh–Akarai Road and Bridge in Ndokwa East (nearly N30bn); and 15 completed bridges and access roads in riverine communities in Ode-Itsekiri.
He added that reputable firms such as CCECC and Levant Construction also have major ongoing projects across the state.
Aniagwu said the creation of the Ministry of Works (Rural Roads) and the Directorate of Riverine Infrastructure was designed to fast-track development in underserved communities, with DESOPADEC handling complementary interventions.
He revealed that Governor Oborevwori introduced a policy guaranteeing direct project allocations to all 25 local government areas. These include:
-
2024: N1 billion per LGA (N25bn total)
-
2025: N2.1 billion per LGA
-
2026: N3 billion per LGA, plus N4 billion intervention fund (N7bn total per LGA)
“There is no state with this kind of direct provision to their local governments,” Aniagwu said.
To ensure durability, he said the governor personally inspects projects, while contractors must follow strict engineering standards.
He also revealed a citizen-driven whistleblower system that allows residents to report substandard construction directly to the governor through a dedicated WhatsApp line.
“Contractors are queried where necessary,” he added.
The administration has also banned concrete mixing on tarred roads to prevent damage and prolong lifesan.
Aniagwu listed stormwater drainage projects in Asaba and Warri, erosion-control efforts, flood mitigation, beautification, tree planting and installation of solar streetlights as part of the administration’s push to improve environmental safety and urban aesthetics.
He commended the Federal Government for progress on the Second Niger Bridge access roads and the Benin–Asaba corridor.
On the state’s blue-economy initiative, Aniagwu said Delta has opened access to the River Niger near Government House, Asaba, with a new dual carriageway leading to the waterfront to boost economic activities.
He said Delta remains financially stable because of prudent management.
“We are solvent not because we get more than other states, but because we manage our resources well,” he said.
Aniagwu expressed confidence that Governor Oborevwori’s performance will continue to shape public opinion, stressing that development is visible across the entire state.
