Oborevwori’s Leadership Turning Delta Into Safe Destination – Imagwe

Imagwe Applauds Oborevwori’s Governance
FORMER presidential aide Comrade Jude Imagwe has commended the administration of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, describing the state as increasingly peaceful, secure and hospitable.
Imagwe, who served as Senior Special Assistant on Students Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan, said the governor’s leadership has contributed significantly to creating an atmosphere of safety and inclusiveness across the state.
Speaking during a visit to Asaba, the Delta State capital, he said the calm environment currently experienced in the state reflects deliberate efforts by the government to promote stability and responsible governance.
According to him, Delta’s peaceful atmosphere has made it more attractive to residents, investors and visitors alike.
Meeting an Old Ally
During his visit, Imagwe reconnected with the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, whom he described as a trusted ally from their days in student unionism.
He recalled that their relationship was built during years of activism when they worked together in advocacy for students’ welfare and broader social justice causes.
Imagwe described Izeze as a “barracks boy” and a comrade in the struggle for fairness and equity, saying the reunion brought back memories of their early days in activism.
Their meeting, he said, underscored the enduring bonds created through shared struggles and ideals.
From Activism to Public Service
Imagwe said Izeze’s journey from student activism to holding a key position in government illustrates the leadership qualities that often emerge from unionism and grassroots advocacy.
According to him, the experiences gained in such movements help prepare individuals for the responsibilities of public office.
“Unionism builds leaders and instils the spirit of service,” he said.
He noted that Governor Oborevwori’s decision to appoint individuals with backgrounds in activism demonstrates recognition of their dedication to accountability and the welfare of the people.
Strengthening Governance Through Experience
The former presidential aide observed that activists who transition into government often maintain a strong commitment to the ideals they once championed.
He said this commitment can strengthen governance by promoting transparency, fairness and public-oriented leadership.
According to him, individuals who have spent years advocating for the rights of others tend to approach public office with a deep sense of responsibility.
Imagwe added that the involvement of former union leaders in governance helps reinforce democratic values and strengthens public institutions.
Warm Reception in Asaba
Imagwe also expressed appreciation for the warm reception he received from Izeze during his visit.
He said the hospitality extended to him highlighted the enduring friendship and solidarity that had characterised their relationship over the years.
The visit, he explained, was part of a personal tradition of reconnecting with comrades and allies from the days of activism whenever he travels to different parts of the country.
Such interactions, he said, help preserve the spirit of solidarity that once guided their collective struggles.
A Message of Solidarity
In concluding his remarks, Imagwe reiterated the importance of unity and shared ideals among those who once fought for social change.
He stressed that when individuals shaped by activism rise to positions of leadership, the broader society stands to gain from their commitment to justice and service.
“When comrades rise, the people rise,” he said.
Imagwe ended with a phrase often associated with labour movements and social activism: “Solidarity forever.”
