Oborevwori Urges Employers: Accept NYSC Members, Support National Service

By PAULINA NZERUBE
DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has appealed to employers across the state not to reject National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to their organisations, stressing that their contributions remain vital to grassroots and state development.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the NYSC 2024 Batch C, Stream 1 orientation course in Issele-Uku — represented by the Commissioner for Special Projects, Mr. Funyei Manager — Oborevwori urged employers to provide a conducive work environment that will enable corps members to deliver meaningful service.
He also encouraged corps members to accept their postings, including to rural communities, noting that such areas rely heavily on their expertise. According to him, national service can only thrive when both employers and corps members embrace their responsibilities with commitment and patriotism.
The governor highlighted the importance of the orientation programme, explaining that it equips corps members with essential skills and knowledge to excel in their primary assignments. He commended their enthusiasm, especially in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training, which he described as key to youth empowerment and financial independence.
As the corps members proceed to their various host communities, Oborevwori urged them to integrate fully and uphold the values of the NYSC, assuring them of the hospitality of Deltans. He further praised the NYSC management for sustaining initiatives that tackle national challenges and promote self-sufficiency.
NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. John Kwange, thanked the governor for his continued support, and acknowledged the Niger Delta Development Commission for installing 229 solar-powered streetlights in the camp — a development he said improved security and aesthetics. He urged community leaders to protect the facilities and advised corps members to remain disciplined, respectful, and impactful through their Community Development Service (CDS) projects.
