Oborevwori, Top Delta Officials Illuminate Carols Festival With Scripture Readings …Calls For ‘Sowing The Needed Seed’ Resonate
THE 2025 Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at the Delta State Government House Chapel on Tuesday unfolded with deep spirituality and solemn elegance as Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other top officials led the congregation through scripture readings anchored on hope, sacrifice, obedience, and divine promise.
Governor Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, opened the ceremony with the First Lesson from Genesis 22:15–17, highlighting God’s covenant to bless Abraham for his unwavering obedience.
The passage reinforced the central message delivered by the Chaplain, Venerable Charles Osemenam, on “the power and necessity of sowing the needed seed.”
Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, followed with the Second Lesson from Isaiah 9:2–7, a prophetic proclamation of the coming of Christ—the “Wonderful Counsellor” and “Prince of Peace”—firmly setting the tone for the season’s celebration of divine light.
Delivering a sermon titled “The Need for the Seed,” Venerable Osemenam urged Christians to embrace sacrificial obedience, describing it as the seed God often demands to activate blessings.
He explained that a seed represents a defining act of faith God expects at crucial moments, noting that Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac was not merely symbolic but transformational.
Drawing from Matthew 1, he further illustrated how Joseph’s decision to accept Mary became the seed required for the fulfillment of Christ’s birth.
“The seed Joseph had to sow was obedience,” he emphasized, urging believers to identify and surrender what God requires of them. “When you sow that seed, you will never regret it.”
This year’s carols featured a blend of spiritual meditation and artistic flair. A captivating drama piece showcased the enduring power of faith, complementing the biblical narratives. The Government House Choir, joined by visiting choirs from Winners Chapel, the Anglican Church, and the Catholic Church, lifted the atmosphere with soul-stirring musical renditions that filled the chapel with warmth and worship.
The event recorded an impressive turnout of top government functionaries, including commissioners, permanent secretaries, special advisers, directors, and other dignitaries, underscoring the unity and reverence that mark the festive season in Delta State.
