Oborevwori To Flag Off ₦59.7 Billion Agbor Flyover As Delta Expands Infrastructure

Oborevwori to Flag Off ₦59.7 billion Agbor Flyover as Delta Expands Urban Infrastructure
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will on Monday 19 January 2026, formally flag off the construction of the ₦59.7 billion Uromi Junction Flyover in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, marking another milestone in the state’s ongoing infrastructure expansion drive.
The project, located along the busy Lagos–Asaba Expressway, is designed to address persistent traffic congestion at the Uromi Junction, one of the most critical transport corridors in Delta State. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to commence at 11:00 a.m., with invited guests expected to be seated by 10:00 a.m., according to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon.
Construction Already Underway
Even ahead of the formal flag-off, construction activities have already commenced at the project site. Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the contractor handling the project, has mobilised to the location and begun preliminary works, including site clearing and preparatory engineering assessments.
The early mobilisation is seen by government officials as a demonstration of the Oborevwori administration’s emphasis on prompt execution of projects and avoidance of delays that have historically plagued large-scale infrastructure developments.
Strategic Importance of the Uromi Junction Flyover
The Uromi Junction Flyover is expected to significantly ease vehicular movement along the Lagos–Asaba Expressway, which serves as a major gateway connecting Delta State to neighbouring states and commercial hubs. Daily traffic congestion at the junction has long posed challenges to commuters, commercial drivers, and residents of Agbor and surrounding communities.
State officials say the flyover will improve road safety, reduce travel time, and enhance the overall efficiency of transportation within the area. It is also expected to support increased economic activity by facilitating smoother movement of goods and services.
Part of a Broader Infrastructure Renewal Agenda
The Agbor project comes barely a week after Governor Oborevwori flagged off the construction of the ₦39.3 billion Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli, underscoring the pace at which the administration is pursuing its infrastructure agenda.
With the addition of the Uromi Junction Flyover, the total number of flyover projects currently being executed by the Oborevwori administration rises to five. These projects are strategically located across major urban centres in the state to address traffic bottlenecks and urban mobility challenges.
Urban Development and Economic Impact
According to the state government, the flyover projects are not only intended to improve traffic flow but also to stimulate economic growth. Improved infrastructure is expected to attract investment, create jobs during construction, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Governor Oborevwori has repeatedly stated that infrastructure development remains central to his administration’s agenda, particularly as Delta State continues to urbanise and experience population growth.
Commitment to Timely Delivery
The mobilisation of Julius Berger ahead of the official ceremony reflects the administration’s stated commitment to timely project delivery. Government sources indicate that strict monitoring mechanisms will be put in place to ensure that construction progresses according to schedule and meets required engineering standards.
As Delta State continues to invest heavily in urban infrastructure, the Uromi Junction Flyover is expected to stand as a key symbol of the administration’s approach to addressing long-standing developmental challenges through large-scale capital projects.
