Delta Governor Condoles Elumelu Family
GOVERNOR Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has extended heartfelt condolences to the Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Mr. Tony Elumelu, and his wife, Dr. Awele Elumelu, following the passing of their father and father-in-law, Chief Israel Ogbue.
Chief Ogbue, a former Chairman of UBA Plc, died at the age of 99. His death marks the end of a long life distinguished by public service, corporate leadership, and devotion to family and community.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori described the late nonagenarian as an elder statesman whose life embodied grace, humility, and unwavering commitment to the values he held dear.
A Life of Leadership and Influence
The governor paid tribute to Chief Ogbue’s contribution to Nigeria’s financial sector, particularly his role in the leadership of UBA. As a former chairman of the bank, Chief Ogbue was regarded as a steady and principled figure during a period of transformation within the banking industry.
Beyond his corporate achievements, Oborevwori noted that Chief Ogbue was widely admired for his personal virtues. He described him as kind-hearted, generous, and consistently supportive of those around him.
“His life positively impacted many,” the governor said, emphasizing that the late patriarch’s warmth and readiness to assist others earned him admiration far beyond his immediate circle.
Devotion to Family and Community
Governor Oborevwori further highlighted Chief Ogbue’s role as a devoted husband, loving father, and caring grandfather. According to him, the late elder exemplified the strength of family values and communal responsibility.
He observed that Chief Ogbue’s longevity was not merely measured in years but in the depth of relationships he nurtured and the moral example he set for younger generations.
On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, the governor commiserated with the Elumelu family and the entire Ogbue family of Onicha-Olona, urging them to find comfort in the remarkable and fulfilled life he lived.
Prayers and Reflections
Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to God for blessing Chief Ogbue with nearly a century of purposeful living. He prayed that his children and descendants would continue to build upon his legacy and even surpass his accomplishments.
He also prayed for divine strength for the bereaved family and eternal rest for the departed soul.
Chief Israel Ogbue’s passing, coming at the age of 99, closes a chapter in a life defined by leadership, integrity, and enduring family bonds — qualities that those who knew him say will continue to resonate for years to come.
