Oborevwori Orders Arrest, Prosecution Of Armed Criminals In Delta
Oborevwori Orders Crackdown on Armed Criminals Ahead of 2027 Polls
Directs Police to Arrest, Prosecute Firearms Offenders
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed security agencies in the state to arrest and prosecute any individual found in possession of firearms or involved in acts capable of disrupting public peace, particularly as the state prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The governor gave the directive on Tuesday while receiving the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, alongside members of his management team during a courtesy visit to Government House, Asaba.
‘No Tolerance for Gun-Related Crime’
Governor Oborevwori stressed that the state would not tolerate a return to the era when firearms were openly brandished by youths and criminal elements, recalling that such practices were widespread prior to 2023.
“Before now, people moved around openly with firearms and created fear. Since 2023, that has stopped, and it will never happen again in Delta State,” the governor said.
He insisted that anyone caught with firearms or attempting to disrupt peace must be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Confidence in New Police Leadership
Describing the posting of CP Adesola as a “homecoming,” the governor noted that the police chief was familiar with the state, having previously served in key operational roles within the command.
Oborevwori commended the Commissioner’s professionalism and understanding of the terrain, adding that the sustained peace recorded in recent weeks reflected effective collaboration among security agencies.
“I am happy you are here because you know this terrain very well. For the few weeks you have been here, Delta State has remained peaceful, and we are proud of your achievements,” he said.
Security, Peace and Development
The governor emphasized that peace and security were prerequisites for development and economic growth, noting that investors would only commit resources to a safe environment.
“Peace gives room for development. Without peace, investors will not come. That is why Delta State remains open for business,” Oborevwori stated.
He urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, describing security as a collective responsibility.
Police Assure Residents of Safety
Earlier, CP Aina Adesola thanked the governor for the warm reception and pledged the command’s commitment to sustaining peace and security across the state.
He assured residents that under his leadership, the police would remain proactive in tackling crime and ensuring that citizens “sleep with their two eyes closed.”
