Oborevwori Mourns Former Delta Deputy Governor, Benjamin Elue, Dead at 85
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has mourned the passing of former Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue, who died at the age of 85.
In a condolence message issued in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the Governor described Elue as a loyal statesman, seasoned administrator and dedicated party man whose service to Delta State remains unforgettable.
Chief Elue served as Deputy Governor to former Governor James Ibori from 1999 to 2007. He was widely respected for his humility, discipline and unwavering commitment to the responsibilities of his office.
Governor Oborevwori said the news of Elue’s death was received with shock and sadness, but with gratitude for a long and impactful life spent in service to the state and the nation.
He praised the late elder statesman not only as an accomplished politician but also as a respected teacher who shaped many young lives through mentorship and community service.
According to the Governor, Elue’s calm temperament, wisdom and dedication to unity played a key role in stabilising democratic governance in Delta State during the early years of the Fourth Republic.
“Chief Benjamin Elue was a man of integrity who served Delta State with honour,” Oborevwori said. “His contributions to governance, peace and development will remain evergreen.”
The Governor extended heartfelt condolences to the Elue family, the people of Aniocha North, Delta North Senatorial District and the entire state. He prayed for God’s comfort for the family and eternal rest for the departed elder statesman.
