Oborevwori Lauds Guwor’s Rise To National Legislative Leadership

Governor Commends Milestone for Delta Legislature
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, on his emergence as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, describing the development as a significant milestone for both Delta State and Nigeria’s legislative community.
Guwor was elected at the General Meeting of the Conference held in Abuja on Monday, an outcome that elevates Delta State’s standing in national legislative affairs and reinforces its reputation for political maturity and democratic stability.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori described Guwor’s election as “well-deserved,” noting that it was a reflection of his legislative competence, leadership acumen, and commitment to democratic ideals.
Recognition of Experience and Leadership
The governor noted that Guwor’s emergence did not come as a surprise to observers of Nigeria’s legislative landscape, given his track record in the Delta State House of Assembly and his ability to foster consensus among lawmakers.
According to Oborevwori, the Speaker’s rise to the national position underscores the confidence reposed in him by his colleagues across the federation, who entrusted him with the responsibility of leading a body that plays a pivotal role in strengthening state legislatures.
“The Conference of Speakers is a strategic institution in our democratic framework, providing a platform for collaboration, peer learning, and the promotion of best practices in lawmaking and oversight,” the governor said.
Oborevwori Reflects on His Own Legislative Journey
Drawing from personal experience, Oborevwori, who previously served as Treasurer and Deputy Chairman of the Conference during his tenure as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, highlighted the importance of the forum in shaping legislative independence and promoting effective governance at the sub-national level.
He emphasized that the Conference serves as a bridge between state legislatures and other arms of government, helping to harmonise legislative approaches to national issues while respecting the autonomy of individual states.
Confidence in Guwor’s Leadership
Governor Oborevwori expressed confidence that Guwor would bring inclusiveness, wisdom, and reform-oriented leadership to his new role, stressing that his chairmanship would further enhance cooperation among state assemblies.
He added that Guwor’s leadership would help deepen democratic practices, improve legislative professionalism, and strengthen oversight functions across state legislatures in the country.
According to the governor, Guwor’s election also reflects the maturity and progressive outlook of the Delta State House of Assembly, which he said has consistently demonstrated stability, discipline, and a commitment to the rule of law.
Boost to Delta’s National Profile
Political observers see Guwor’s emergence as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers as a major boost to Delta State’s influence in national legislative discourse. It places the state at the centre of conversations on lawmaking, governance reforms, and inter-parliamentary cooperation.
As Guwor assumes leadership of the Conference, expectations are high that his tenure will strengthen legislative institutions nationwide and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s democratic development.
