Inclusive Education Gets Lift As Delta First Lady Donates Learning Tools
DELTA State First Lady, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has reinforced the state’s inclusive education goals by donating specialised learning aids to two special needs primary schools under the 2026 outreach of her You Matter Charity Foundation.
Flagging off the programme in Ogwashi-Uku, she explained that the initiative seeks to close learning gaps, improve pupil participation, and support teachers with instructional materials suited for children requiring special education. She highlighted that quality education for special needs learners must include customised tools, safe environments, trained educators, and infrastructure that supports mobility and learning comfort.
School leaders confirmed that these needs remain urgent. Abuanor Primary School Headmistress, Mrs. Bethel Uzumefune, pointed out increasing enrolment of physically challenged pupils and appealed for specialised teachers, modern classroom upgrades, and better security. She acknowledged the Foundation’s intervention as timely, noting that the learning materials will directly improve lesson delivery and pupil engagement.
At Martin Education Special Primary School in Ubulu-Uku, Principal Mrs. Regina Isioma Isioma said the donated tools will help educators manage diverse learning abilities more effectively, adding that the school has long battled shortages in special learning resources.
Delta SUBEB Chairman, Mr. Samuel Mariere, praised the intervention for strengthening the basic education framework and committed the Board to continued partnership with the First Lady’s Foundation to expand access and support for vulnerable learners.
Permanent Secretary Sir Byron Unini assured that the Ministry will act on feedback from the visit, commending teachers and parents for their role in sustaining special education despite constraints.
Parents and community stakeholders said the outreach demonstrates practical commitment beyond policy, describing the programme as one of the most impactful education support actions in the region.
