DELTA State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Thursday performed the groundbreaking of the ₦21.3 billion, 12-kilometre Ugbolu–Okpanam road project in Oshimili North Local Government Area, defying heavy rainfall to do so.
The project, which had been postponed earlier due to bad weather, is part of the governor’s M.O.R.E. Agenda to boost infrastructure and economic growth across the state. Oborevwori said the road would enhance connectivity and improve living conditions within the Asaba capital territory, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 9 and 11.
He disclosed that 40% of the project cost — about ₦8.5 billion — had been paid to the contractor, Levant Construction Company, and warned against any upward review of the contract sum.
“Our administration is not owing any contractor. We expect timely delivery and strict adherence to specifications,” he said.
Local government chairman Chief Innocent Esewezie and the Ugoani of Okpanam, HRM Dr. Michael Mbanefo, commended the governor’s leadership, describing the road as a symbol of unity and progress. Levant’s Managing Director, Elie Tannous, assured that the project would be completed on schedule and to high standards.
