Unity, Constitution Key to Anioma State Push
GOVERNOR Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has endorsed the agitation for the creation of Anioma State, urging proponents to pursue the goal strictly within the bounds of the Constitution. The endorsement was delivered by the Chief of Staff, Prince Johnson Erijo, during a peaceful demonstration by Anioma youths at the Government House, Asaba.
Erijo noted that the Oborevwori administration does not oppose the aspirations of the Anioma people and recognises their demand as legitimate. However, he stressed that state creation remains a constitutional matter requiring broad consensus, legislative approval and adherence to due process.
He applauded the protesters for their discipline and restraint, describing their approach as responsible and commendable. At the same time, he warned that internal disagreements could weaken the agitation, urging stakeholders to speak with one voice to strengthen their case.
The youth coalition reaffirmed that Anioma people are historically and culturally Igbo and belong in the South-East geopolitical zone. They called on the Delta State Government, President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to support the Anioma State bill, arguing that the proposal would promote equity, identity and political balance.
