Oborevwori Begins Construction Of Landmark Ughelli Flyover

By PAULINA NZERUBE
GOVERNOR Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has commenced construction of the ₦39.3 billion Otovwodo Flyover in Ughelli, pledging that the project will finally resolve years of traffic congestion at the busy Otovwodo Junction along the East–West Road.
At the flag-off ceremony, the governor described the project as central to his administration’s drive for durable infrastructure, prudent resource management and inclusive economic growth. He said Ughelli’s status as a commercial and educational hub has intensified traffic pressure on its major roads, turning Otovwodo Junction into a chronic gridlock point.
Oborevwori revealed that his administration had earlier opened alternative internal roads, including Uduere and Okogbe streets, to ease traffic flow before the commencement of the flyover. The interim works, he said, cost the state nearly ₦6 billion.
The flyover, to be handled by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, is designed as a 15-span structure with dual carriageways, connecting roads, modern drainage systems and solar-powered street lighting. The governor said the project would reduce travel time, improve safety and stimulate economic activity in Ughelli and surrounding areas.
He urged residents to cooperate with traffic officials during construction and assured that the project would be delivered within 12 months. Community leaders and government officials present at the event praised the initiative as long overdue.
