Obi Slams Government Over Birthday Donations For National Library
By TINA TOLUTOPE
LABOUR Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised the federal government for failing to complete the National Library in Abuja, following First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s appeal for birthday donations to fund the project.
Obi described the gesture as “noble and selfless” but called it an indictment of Nigeria, questioning why a nation that spends billions on luxury items must rely on charity to finish its “temple of knowledge.”
He noted that while leaders may ask supporters to redirect gifts to social causes, government still bears the duty of providing essential infrastructure. Obi warned that Nigeria’s future depends on investing in education, not vanity projects.
