NYSC Seeks Implementation Of Otti’s Directive To Relocate State Secretariat
THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abia says it is worried over the non-implementation of Gov. Alex Otti’s directive for the relocation of its state Secretariat from St. Finbarrs’ Road, Umuahia, to a more conducive office environment.
The State Coordinator, Mrs Gladys Adama, said this during the opening ceremony for the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 corps members held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, in Bende Local Government Area, on Friday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the governor had pledged to relocate the Secretariat during the opening ceremony of 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 corps members in November 2024.
Adama, however, said that she remained confident that the governor would soon fulfil his promise, “as our current secretariat may become unusable before long”.
She said, “Your Excellency, sir, we say thank you again and again, for we know you are a man of your word” and epressd gratitude to the governor for his numerous support and fulfilling so many promises to the scheme in the state, “especially for creating a peaceful and enabling environment for corps members”.
Adama said that 1,592 corps members, comprising 759 males and 833 females, were duly registered for the orientation course.
She urged the corps members to take the three-week exercise seriously, in order to make themselves better citizens and also contribute to nation’s building.
In a remark, the governor said that his administration was committed to providing an enabling environment that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and social mobility.
Otti, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Nwaobilor Ananaba, said that his administration was investing in critical infrastructure, including the rehabilitation of the orientation camp, to ensure a conducive environment.
“We are making plans to start paying state monthly stipend and it will be something relative to the current economic realities, more especially to those of you who may be posted to state-owned institutions,” he said.
NAN further reports that the state Chief Judge, Justice Lilian Abai, represented by Justice CU Okoroafor, administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members. (NAN)
