NSCDC Shock CNS Men As Women Rule Opening Day Of CGC Volleyball League
By FRED LONGJOHN OBEH
THE 2025 Chief of General Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League roared to life in Abuja with dramatic upsets and commanding wins.
In the men’s opener, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) pulled off a stunning five-set victory over defending champions Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers at the Moshood Abiola Stadium. NSCDC stormed to a two-set lead (25-22, 31-29) before CNS clawed back (25-20, 25-20) to force a decider. But the Civil Defence side held their nerve, sealing a tense 15-11 win to announce themselves as early contenders.
On the women’s side, CNS Spikers showed no mercy against Benue Queens, sweeping them aside 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-14) in a ruthless performance. NSCDC women followed suit, brushing off Anambra Queens in straight sets (25-20, 25-13, 25-11), underlining their championship ambitions.
With both teams making strong statements, the women’s title race is already shaping into a fierce duel, while the men’s competition promises shocks after the holders’ shaky start.
