No Rape, But Molestation Confirmed At Ozoro Festival – SUG

Clarification Amid Controversy
SUG President Debunks Rape Claims at Ozoro Festival
THE President of the Students Union Government (SUG) of Southern Delta University, Oribelua Precious, has clarified that six female students involved in an incident during a recent festival in Ozoro were sexually harassed, not raped.
The incident occurred during a traditional celebration in the Uruamudhu quarters of Ozoro Kingdom, Isoko North Local Government Area, where a group of young men allegedly assaulted female attendees.
Community Leadership Confirms Misconduct
Corroborating the SUG’s position, the President General of Ozoro Kingdom, Berkeley Asiafa, dismissed claims of rape but acknowledged that some women were molested during the event.
He explained that the misconduct was carried out by hoodlums who exploited the crowded environment of the festival.
Calls for Improved Security
The incident has raised concerns among students and residents, with many calling for stronger security measures and better crowd control at cultural events.
Stakeholders emphasised the need to safeguard attendees and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
As of the time of reporting, no arrests have been announced, but there are growing demands for a thorough investigation and accountability for those involved.
