Nigeria U20 Women Intensify Training Ahead Of Malawi Showdown

Camp Opens, Focus Sharpens
NIGERIA’S U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have resumed training camp in Abuja as preparations gather pace for the decisive final qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
The team began assembling on Monday 6 April, with early arrivals settling into camp before full training sessions kicked off the following day. More players are still expected to join as the technical crew continues to fine-tune the squad ahead of the crucial fixtures.
The atmosphere in camp has been described as focused and competitive, with players eager to secure places in the final squad that will represent Nigeria on the continental stage.
Technical Crew Sets the Tone
Head Coach Moses Aduku used the opening training session to set clear expectations, stressing discipline, teamwork, and commitment as non-negotiable qualities for success.
According to team officials, the training programme is designed to improve physical fitness, tactical organisation, and team cohesion—key elements required to navigate the high-stakes encounter against Malawi.
The coaching staff is also closely monitoring player performance, ensuring only those in peak condition make the final cut.
Malawi Test Looms
Nigeria faces Malawi in a two-legged tie that will determine qualification for the World Cup. The first leg is scheduled to take place in Nigeria on 2 May, while the return leg will be played in Malawi a week later.
Malawi booked their place in the final round after edging past Guinea-Bissau, signaling their intent as formidable opponents.
Despite the challenge, there is quiet confidence within the Falconets’ camp. Players have expressed belief in their preparation and readiness to deliver when it matters most.
Road to Poland 2026
The stakes are high, with only four African teams set to qualify for the global tournament, which will be held in Poland from 5 to 26 September 2026.
For Nigeria, a country with a rich history in women’s youth football, qualification is both an expectation and a responsibility. The Falconets are determined to uphold that legacy by securing a place at the tournament.
