NIGERIA began the 2025 World Para Powerlifting Championships on a high note, winning silver and bronze in the women’s 50kg category on the opening weekend in Cairo.
Esther Nworgu took silver, while Rukayat Opeyemi Ajiboye earned bronze, giving Nigeria a double podium finish at the first World Para Powerlifting event ever hosted in Africa.
The National Sports Commission’s Director General, Bukola Olopade, praised the athletes for their determination and national pride, calling their performance “a reflection of Nigeria’s strength and talent in para powerlifting.”
With more events ahead, Team Nigeria aims to build on this strong start and add to its medal tally before the championships conclude on 18 October.
