NIGERIA closed out a memorable evening at the Islamic Solidarity Games with a brilliant gold medal in the 4×400m mixed relay, as Gafaru Atanda Badmus, Anita Enaruna, Ezekiel Asuquo, and Patience Okon George powered to victory in 3:16.27. The win sent fans inside the Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Stadium into jubilant celebrations, marking one of Team Nigeria’s standout moments of the tournament.
The relay success capped a productive day across multiple events, with Nigeria securing two gold and two silver medals to bring its overall tally to 29—10 gold, 12 silver, and 7 bronze.
Earlier, Esther Kolawole dominated the Women’s Freestyle 62kg wrestling category to claim gold, while Damola Ojo earned silver after a tough 76kg final against Kyrgyzstan’s Aiperi Kyzy. In the Women’s Shot Put, Oyesade Olatoye took silver with a strong performance behind Turkey’s Emel Dereli.
With the Games set to conclude tomorrow, Nigeria is eyeing an even stronger finish. Para-powerlifting stars Folashade Oluwafemiayo and Roland Ezuruike are expected to compete for gold as the team looks to close out its campaign on a high.
