Nigeria Pledges To Strengthen Ties With Vietnam, Foster Fresh People-To-People Exchanges
THE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen diplomatic relations with Vietnam for the benefit of the two countries and their citizens.
Tuggar disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The minister made this known in a congratulatory message to Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister, Bùi Sơn, on the occasion of the country’s 80th independence anniversary.
Tuggar extended his warm congratulations to Vietnam on the occasion, and pledged to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between both countries.
The minister described the milestones recorded by Vietnam since independence as a testament to the resilience, unity and determination of the Vietnamese in their pursuit of sovereignty, peace, and national development.
He recalled that diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Vietnam were established in 1976 during Vietnam’s struggle for reunification, saying such was further consolidated with the opening of embassies in Abuja and Hanoi in 2007.
Tuggar said, “Since then, the partnership has expanded steadily, particularly in trade, agriculture, investment, education and multilateral engagements.
“Vietnam is currently one of Nigeria’s key trading partners with bilateral trade valued at approximately one billion dollars as of the last quarter of 2024.
“Both nations also maintain strong collaboration within the United Nations and other multilateral forums, championing global peace, sustainable development and South-South cooperation.”
On this historic occasion, he said, Nigeria reaffirmed its readiness to deepen cooperation, explore new areas of partnership and foster greater people-to-people exchanges.
“Nigeria stands ready to strengthen relations with Vietnam for the mutual benefit of our peoples,” Tuggar added.
He further wished the government and people of Vietnam peace, prosperity and continued progress.
