NIGERIA has sent the first batch of its contingent to the 4th Africa Youth Games (AYG) in Luanda, Angola, departing on Monday 8 December 2025. The country will be represented by 86 young athletes competing across 12 sports, including athletics, badminton, boxing, beach volleyball, cycling, judo, golf, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and weightlifting.
The AYG, running from December 10 to 20, marks the first time Angola—a Portuguese-speaking nation—hosts the continent’s premier youth multi-sport event. Competitions will take place across six cities, including Luanda, Benguela, and Bengo, featuring athletes aged 14 to 17 from up to 54 African nations.
According to the National Sports Commission, the Games serve as a developmental platform, fostering youth engagement, talent identification, and preparation for major international competitions. The event also acts as a qualifier for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games while promoting continental unity and cultural exchange. Both the Commission and the Nigeria Olympic Committee expressed confidence in Team Nigeria’s readiness to perform strongly on the African stage.
