Nigeria to Face Jordan in March International Friendly
THE Nigeria national football team will take on the Jordan national football team in an international friendly scheduled to hold in Amman between 23 and 31 March 2026.
The fixture was confirmed following an agreement between the two football federations, with both teams expected to use the encounter as part of their build-up to future international assignments.
Jordan, who have secured qualification for their maiden appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, are set to test their readiness ahead of the global tournament. The Middle Eastern side have been drawn in a group that includes African heavyweights such as the Algeria national football team.
For Nigeria, the friendly offers a chance to regroup after narrowly missing out on World Cup qualification. Head coach Eric Chelle is expected to use the game to integrate new talents into the squad while maintaining competitiveness within the team.
Nigeria’s qualification hopes were ended after a penalty shootout defeat to the DR Congo national football team during the African playoffs held in Morocco. However, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has since lodged a formal complaint with FIFA, alleging that Congo DR fielded ineligible players.
A decision on the case is expected on 16 February 2026. Should the ruling favour Nigeria, the Super Eagles could still feature in the inter-confederation playoffs scheduled for Mexico.
Until then, the March friendly provides an important opportunity for squad rebuilding and tactical refinement.
