Nigeria Joins Global Leaders Backing Stronger International Cooperation
By ANITA KNIGHT
NIGERIA has been ranked among the world’s strongest supporters of global cooperation, according to a new Rockefeller Foundation survey spanning 34 countries. The findings reveal that 71% of Nigerians back international collaboration, placing the country alongside Kenya (72%), South Korea (73%), India (81%), and South Africa (70%) as top advocates for collective action.
The survey, which polled over 36,000 adults, shows overwhelming belief in cooperation to tackle key issues such as jobs, trade, food and water security, health, climate change, and inequality. However, trust in institutions like the UN, WHO, and IMF remains comparatively low.
In response, the Rockefeller Foundation has launched a $50 million “Build the Shared Future” initiative to drive equitable partnerships and innovative solutions, particularly in Africa. Leaders stress that cooperation must deliver tangible results to maintain public trust, with calls for models that emphasize local leadership, fairness, and resilience.
