NIGERIA’S U-18 women’s handball team edged Kenya 37–35 on Friday in their final group match at the Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship in Oran, Algeria.
The team led 18–14 at half-time but faced a strong Kenyan comeback before sealing victory in the closing minutes.
Nigeria finished third in Group A with five points, behind Tunisia (10) and Angola (8). They will now face hosts Algeria in the fifth-place playoff on Saturday.
The championship, running from Sept. 14–21, also serves as a qualifier for the 2026 Women’s Youth World Handball Championship.
