Nigeria Activates Diplomatic Hotlines For Citizens Amid Middle East Tensions

Government Urges Nigerians to Stay in Touch With Missions
THE Federal Government has released emergency contact lines for Nigerian citizens living across the Middle East following the escalating tensions affecting parts of the region.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa urged Nigerians in affected countries to maintain close communication with the nearest Nigerian diplomatic missions for assistance and guidance.
According to the ministry, the emergency communication channels had already been publicised by various Nigerian embassies and consulates in the region as part of ongoing efforts to ensure citizens can quickly access support during emergencies.
The government advised Nigerians residing in several Middle Eastern countries—including Iran, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq—to remain alert and follow official guidance from Nigerian authorities.
Ebienfa explained that Nigerians should ensure they are properly registered with the Nigerian embassy or consulate in their country of residence. Such registration, he noted, enables diplomatic missions to provide timely assistance, including emergency evacuation arrangements if necessary.
Missions Provide Consular Support
The spokesperson listed several Nigerian diplomatic missions that have established emergency lines to assist citizens. These include embassies located in Tehran, Tel Aviv, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Beirut, Riyadh and Amman.
In addition, the government said the Nigerian consulates in Dubai and Jeddah have also activated communication channels to respond to distress calls from citizens.
“Nigerians experiencing any form of distress are advised to contact the designated emergency lines for assistance and consular support,” Ebienfa said.
Commitment to Citizens’ Safety
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that the Nigerian government remains committed to safeguarding the welfare and security of its citizens abroad, especially during periods of heightened geopolitical tension.
Officials said diplomatic missions across the Middle East are closely monitoring developments and stand ready to assist Nigerians who may require help.
The ministry further encouraged Nigerians in the region to remain calm, stay informed through official channels and maintain regular contact with Nigerian missions.
