Nigeria 3-1 Uganda: Super Eagles Seal Flawless Group Stage
By FRED LONGJOHN OBEH
Rotation Pays Off
NIGERIA closed out their Group C campaign at AFCON 2025 with authority, beating Uganda 3–1 in Fès to finish the group stage unbeaten. Head coach Eric Chelle made eight changes from the side that triumphed over Tunisia, yet the result was unchanged: dominant, fluid football.
Debuts and Performances
Several fringe players seized the opportunity. Raphael Onyedika was the star, scoring twice on his first competitive start. Young full-back Ryan Alebiosu impressed on his debut, while Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze consistently terrorized Uganda’s defence. Victor Osimhen led calmly from the front, creating chances and drawing a key red card.
Defensive Solidity
Calvin Bassey and Igoh Ogbu formed a strong central partnership, controlling aerial duels and tackles. Francis Uzoho, stepping in for Stanley Nwabali, handled Uganda’s few threats efficiently. Bruno Onyemaechi and Alebiosu provided balance from the flanks.
Depth Tested, Confidence Gained
Nigeria’s substitutes integrated smoothly, and goals came from across the squad. The Super Eagles exit the group stage unbeaten, confident, and with multiple attacking and defensive options, a reassuring message ahead of the knockout rounds.
