THE Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE) has emphasised that robust digital infrastructure is essential to drive Nigeria’s sustainable economic growth and global competitiveness.
Speaking at the closing of the 2025 International Conference and Exhibition of Power and Telecommunications (ICEPT) in Osogbo, NIEEE President, Dr. Felix Olu, said digital systems such as data centres, networks, and cybersecurity are the backbone of modern economies.
Olu identified funding gaps, manpower shortages, poor maintenance culture, and weak policy implementation as major obstacles to Nigeria’s digital transformation. He called for greater investment in digital infrastructure, stable power supply, and capacity building through professional training.
He added that improved digital infrastructure would boost productivity, innovation, and economic inclusion.
A communiqué issued at the end of the conference urged the integration of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and automation into ICT systems to enhance efficiency in the energy and industrial sectors. It also recommended stronger research-industry collaboration to accelerate clean energy adoption and nationwide digital transformation.
