SAFE Water Global Initiative has urged urgent action to provide safe water in flood-affected areas, warning of the risk of cholera and other waterborne diseases.
Its founder Francis Uzoma said contaminated water sources have left many Nigerians, especially in rural areas, without potable water. He called for relocation from flood-prone zones, provision of sanitation facilities, and stronger local government commitment, noting councils now receive direct federal allocations.
Uzoma stressed that access to safe water is a human right and vital to achieving Nigeria’s Sustainable Development Goals, urging government, private firms, and development partners to scale up interventions.
