THE Adamawa State Government has cancelled its 31st December “Cross-Over Night” celebration planned at the Unity Flyover in Jimeta, Jimeta-Yola, citing rising security threats.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s spokesperson, Humwashi Wonosikou, confirmed the decision on Wednesday, explaining that intelligence reports flagged the event as a potential target for disruption. The government urged residents of Yola North and South Local Government Areas to remain alert, avoid large gatherings, and report suspicious movements to authorities, emphasising that the state is working closely with security agencies to maintain stability.
In a similar move, Lagos State cancelled its 2025 Greater Lagos Fiesta, popularly known as the Countdown to 2026. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s spokesperson, Gboyega Akosile, said the governor advised Lagosians to replace festivities with personal prayers for national unity, peace, and prosperity.
Sanwo-Olu appealed for prayers for continued progress in Lagos and expressed optimism that 2026 would bring growth and stability to both the state and the nation, urging residents to uphold peaceful coexistence as the new year begins.
