TETFund Sets 2026 Agenda With Multi-Billion Naira Education Intervention
Stakeholders Receive Allocation Letters
THE Tertiary Education Trust Fund has set the tone for its 2026 intervention programme, announcing multi-billion naira allocations for universities, polytechnics, and Colleges of Education across the country.
Speaking at the 2026 Stakeholders’ Workshop in Abuja, TETFund Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, said the funding framework is designed to accelerate growth, innovation, and measurable impact in tertiary education.
Uniform Allocations Across Institutions
Under the new cycle, universities will each receive ₦2.525 billion, polytechnics ₦1.871 billion, and Colleges of Education ₦2.056 billion.
Echono explained that the uniform allocation system promotes fairness and ensures all institutions benefit from national education interventions.
Strengthening Research and Teaching Capacity
He said the funds would be deployed to upgrade classrooms, laboratories, workshops, and research facilities, while also enhancing academic programmes and student exposure initiatives through private-sector partnerships.
New Digital Research Network
A key highlight of the 2026 cycle is the introduction of the Nigerian Research and Education Network, which will integrate digital research platforms and improve access to global academic resources.
Echono described the initiative as critical to improving Nigeria’s research visibility and international collaboration.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Impact
The TETFund boss emphasised that institutions would be monitored closely to ensure efficient utilisation of funds, adding that performance assessments would influence future allocations.
“With these investments, 2026 promises to deliver growth, innovation and real impact,” he said.
