New MoU Targets Women’s Political Representation In Nigeria

By MELVIN KOFFA
TOS Foundation Africa has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Embassy of Switzerland in Nigeria to establish the HerCademy Leadership Institute, a programme designed to prepare women for public office.
The agreement, signed in Abuja by Osasu Ogwuche and Ambassador Patrick Egloff ahead of Women’s History Month, seeks to tackle Nigeria’s low female political representation. Women occupy less than five per cent of National Assembly seats, and none of the 36 states has a female governor.
Bridging the Gap
HerCademy will provide practical, skills-based political training focused on campaign strategy, leadership development and network building. The inaugural cohort will comprise 37 women — one from each state and the Federal Capital Territory.
The Swiss Embassy said the partnership reflects its commitment to democratic governance and gender inclusion, while TOS Foundation described the institute as a structured pathway to transform women’s political ambition into electoral success.
