By AUGUSTUS ISICHEI
THE NDDC says preparations are underway to deliver a bigger and better Niger Delta Games in 2026, with Edo State set to host the second edition. Speaking at the inaugural organising meeting in Port Harcourt, Main Organising Committee Chairman Alabo Boma Iyaye said the Commission plans to expand participation, improve logistics and elevate the quality of the competition.
Iyaye praised the success of the 2025 debut in Uyo, noting that the event promoted unity, peace and talent discovery among youths. He said the 2026 games would deepen these gains and create more pathways for young athletes across the region.
He commended Niger Delta governors for enabling the smooth execution of the previous edition and charged organising committees to strive for excellence. He also urged parents and communities to support youth involvement in sports.
Bayelsa Sports Commissioner Daniel Igali lauded the NDDC for leading a regional sports renaissance and expressed confidence that the Edo games would leave an even stronger impression. Lead consultant Itiako Ikpokpo called for early preparation and pledged that EDO 2026 will deliver on its promise.
