NASU, SSANU Threaten Strike, Issue FG 7-Day Ultimatum

THE Joint Action Committee of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has issued the Federal Government a seven-day strike notice.
In a letter to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, the unions warned that failure to resolve lingering disputes would trigger industrial action.
Signed by NASU General Secretary, Prince Peter Adeyemi, and SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim, the letter highlighted grievances including the ₦50 billion earned allowances disbursement, withheld salaries, unpaid arrears of the 25/35 per cent salary increment, and the long-delayed renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/NASU/SSANU agreement.
The unions accused government of shortchanging university workers and excluding inter-university centre staff from the earned allowances, while also reneging on repeated assurances to pay withheld arrears and salary increments.
They described the exclusion from the 2009 agreement renegotiation as “unfair and unacceptable,” insisting the neglect would no longer be tolerated.
The ultimatum, effective 15 September 2025, warns that failure to act within the window will lead to a strike and other industrial actions.
