Mosquitoes Discovered In Iceland For The First Time
By ANDERSON (ANDY) CLIFF
SCIENTISTS have confirmed the first-ever discovery of mosquitoes in Iceland, previously believed to be mosquito-free. Entomologist Matthias Alfredsson reported that three Culiseta annulata specimens were found north of Reykjavik, likely brought in through trade or tourism.
The species, known for surviving cold climates, may adapt to Iceland’s environment, though researchers will monitor in spring to see if a permanent population forms.
