Morocco Hosts African Reporters To Deepen Media Diplomacy

By ESTHER McWILLIS-IKHIDE
MOHAMMED Daki, Vice President of Morocco’s National Association of Media and Publishers (ANME), has called for the establishment of a strong and cohesive network of African journalists to project the continent more positively on the global stage.
Speaking in an interview on Thursday in Casablanca, Daki said African journalists must work more closely together to shape accurate narratives about the continent, rather than allowing external voices to dominate Africa’s story. He stressed that collaboration among media professionals across Africa was essential in highlighting the continent’s achievements, opportunities and challenges from an African perspective.
Daki explained that the invitation of journalists from other African countries to Morocco was aimed at strengthening existing partnerships between Moroccan journalists and their counterparts across the continent. According to him, such exchanges help deepen professional relationships and foster better understanding among African media practitioners.
He added that the visit was also designed to showcase Morocco’s infrastructural development and investment opportunities to the wider African and global audience. Daki noted that African journalists have an important role to play in promoting intra-African awareness and cooperation.
Reflecting on past media focus, he said African journalists had previously concentrated more on developments outside the continent, urging a shift toward greater attention to African affairs. He described Africa as a continent rich in talent and opportunity, deserving of balanced and positive storytelling.
Daki said ANME would continue to promote initiatives that strengthen partnerships among African journalists, reaffirming the association’s commitment to professional collaboration and media development.
