The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has called for calm following the suspension of Badeggi FM, a radio station in Minna, Niger State.
The call was made in a statement issued on Saturday by the minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Malam Rabiu Ibrahim. The statement addressed concerns raised by media stakeholders over the recent directive by the Niger State Government to suspend the station’s operations.
Reports indicate that Governor Umaru Bago announced the suspension on August 1 during an expanded APC caucus meeting in Minna, citing allegations that the station engaged in unethical broadcasting and incitement.
While acknowledging these concerns, Minister Idris emphasized that the authority to suspend broadcasting licenses legally rests with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
“In this light, the minister welcomes the decision of the Niger State Government to formally report the alleged unethical conduct by Badeggi FM to the NBC,” the statement read.
The minister urged all stakeholders to remain calm, assuring that the NBC has established mechanisms to investigate and resolve the matter in a fair and impartial manner.
