THE Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has raised alarm over renewed killings in Plateau State, describing the violence as a “systematic campaign of extermination” against indigenous ethnic nationalities in the region.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Luka Binniyat, the MBF condemned the killing of 13 Berom natives in Rachas village, Barkin Ladi Local Council, accusing extremist groups of carrying out “a sustained effort to seize ancestral lands and erase native identities.”
Binniyat said the attacks amount to genocide under the UN Convention, linking them to descendants of early jihadist invaders and modern terror groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP. The Forum urged both the Nigerian government and the international community to intervene urgently.
Meanwhile, the Tyoshin Strategic Group (TSG) in Benue State has decried the collapse of public primary and secondary schools in Gwer-West Local Council due to herdsmen attacks. Its leader, Dr. Felix Atume, revealed that only five government schools remain functional, calling for the relocation of displaced persons occupying classrooms and the creation of temporary learning centers.
President Bola Tinubu, through Information Minister Mohammed Idris, reiterated his administration’s resolve to end insecurity nationwide and restore peace in northern communities.
