Mané Strike Sends Senegal Through To AFCON Final

Tactical Battle & Decisive Moment
SENEGAL advanced to the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a disciplined semi-final performance capped by a stunning second-half strike from Sadio Mané.
The match unfolded as a tense tactical contest, with both teams prioritising structure and balance over attacking risk in the opening half. Midfield congestion limited creativity, and while Senegal enjoyed slightly more possession, neither side managed to carve out a clear scoring opportunity before the interval.
That pattern changed in the second half when Mané seized his moment. Given a yard of space outside the penalty area, the Senegal captain struck a precise curling effort that left the goalkeeper helpless. The goal broke the deadlock and underlined Mané’s reputation as a player capable of delivering when it matters most.
Following the opener, Senegal adjusted their approach, slowing the tempo and managing the game intelligently. Their defensive line remained compact, while the midfield worked tirelessly to disrupt any rhythm their opponents tried to establish.
Egypt, led by Mohamed Salah, searched for a way back into the contest, but Senegal’s organisation frustrated every attempt. Salah was largely kept quiet, unable to replicate the decisive impact of his former Liverpool teammate on the opposite side.
As the final whistle approached, Senegal absorbed late pressure with composure, ensuring the single goal was enough to secure victory and passage into the final.
The Teranga Lions will now turn their attention to the AFCON final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where they await the winner of the second semi-final between Nigeria and Morocco. With momentum and confidence on their side, Senegal remain firmly in contention for another continental title.
