Make DELSU A Centre Of Academic Excellence, Oborevwori Charges Governing Council
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged newly inaugurated members of the Governing Council of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, to demonstrate integrity, diligence and unwavering commitment as they steer the institution toward greater academic excellence.
The governor gave the charge during the inauguration of Rt. Hon. Festus Agas, Rt. Hon. Frank Enekorogha and Mr. Charles Ajuyah, SAN, as members of the university’s Governing Council.
Oborevwori described the ceremony as significant, noting that Governing Councils play a crucial role in shaping policy direction, maintaining standards and ensuring effective governance in universities. He added that DELSU’s continued rise as a reputable centre of higher learning made strong leadership even more essential.
He said his administration has consistently appointed individuals of integrity, competence and proven public service records into governing councils across the state, stressing that the new appointees were chosen based on merit and distinguished contributions to society.
“As members of the Governing Council, you carry the aspirations of thousands of students, staff, alumni and indeed the people of Delta State,” the governor said. “Your decisions will guide policy, influence academic direction and shape the future of this university for generations.”
He urged them to operate with transparency, responsibility and foresight, emphasising that the quality of governance at DELSU will determine the university’s ability to produce graduates who are academically sound, morally upright and socially responsible.
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated members, Rt. Hon. Festus Agas thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve, describing the appointment as a privilege and a call to higher responsibility.
Agas pledged that the council would work harmoniously with the Vice-Chancellor and university management to strengthen administration, support academic development and uphold the university’s core values.
He also praised Governor Oborevwori for maintaining harmony across the arms of government and for the administration’s strides in peace and security, infrastructure development, health, human capital development and youth empowerment.
“We appreciate the confidence you have placed in us,” Agas said. “We will discharge our duties with dedication, loyalty and integrity.”
