OFFICIAL EXPLANATION AND TIMELINE FOCUS
THE Nigeria National League (NNL) has shifted the resumption date for the second half of the 2025/26 season, pushing the restart back by two weeks.
The league, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the second stanza of the campaign, initially billed to kick off on 31 January, will now begin on 14 February 2026. According to the organisers, the postponement was necessitated by logistical challenges and other prevailing circumstances.
Although the NNL did not disclose specific details behind the delay, it assured clubs, officials and fans that arrangements were being finalised to ensure a smooth continuation of the season. A revised fixture list, reflecting the new timetable, is expected to be released in due course.
The league further reiterated that the overall structure of the season remains unchanged. At the end of the campaign, four clubs will secure promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The promoted teams will emerge through the NNL Super Eight playoffs, where the top-performing sides across the league will compete for a place in the top flight.
