Lagos Catholics Take To The Streets To Honour Christ The King
By DIANA CHUKWUKA
CATHOLICS across Lagos State on Sunday joined the global Church to celebrate the Feast of Christ the King, marked with colourful processions and public professions of faith.
The solemnity, instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI, proclaims Jesus as King of the Universe and reminds believers that His reign transcends all earthly authority. Across several parishes, worshippers took to the streets singing hymns and declaring Christ’s kingship.
At SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Tedi-Muwo Ojo, parishioners processed through major streets in a display that drew admiration from residents. Parish priest Rev. Fr. Anthony Thompson encouraged Christians to remain anchored in Christ amid uncertainty, urging them not to rely solely on economic conditions but on divine providence.
At Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Onireke, Rev. Fr. Luke Ogu led another spirited procession marked by praise and dancing. He assured worshippers of God’s comforting presence, saying Christ brings peace, joy, and renewed strength.
Both priests called on the faithful to trust God wholeheartedly and allow His grace to guide their lives.
