Labour Protest: Delta Reaffirms Commitment to Safety

Delta Govt Reaffirms Security Commitment Amid Labour Protest
THE Delta State Government has assured workers and residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, declaring security the foundation of effective governance. The assurance was given on Wednesday at Government House, Asaba, during a peaceful protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) against rising insecurity nationwide.
Receiving the protesters on behalf of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Chief of Staff Hon. Johnson Erijo acknowledged the legitimacy of the concerns raised, stressing that no responsible government could ignore threats to public safety. He described the protest as a solidarity action reflecting wider national security challenges, even as he noted that Delta State has remained relatively peaceful.
Security as Pillar of Governance
Erijo said security remains a core pillar of the Oborevwori administration’s MORE Agenda, noting that peace is essential for delivering democratic dividends. He added that the state government would continue to work with security agencies to maintain stability.
Federal Efforts and Labour Concerns
He also acknowledged ongoing efforts by the Federal Government, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited complex security challenges. Earlier, NLC Delta State Secretary, Comrade Acrobat Enekhawore, highlighted the disruptive impact of insecurity on livelihoods, education and public confidence.
The protest ended with calls for stronger collaboration between federal and state authorities to restore security nationwide.
