IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu has named 23 witnesses, including former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, ex-Defence Minister Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), former Army Chief Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), and Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Hope Uzodinma, for his ongoing terrorism trial.
In a motion filed before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Kanu said he was ready to begin his defence and sought a 90-day timeframe to conclude it. He plans to testify personally and call both “ordinary” and “compellable” witnesses under Section 232 of the Evidence Act.
The filing follows his recent objection to the court’s jurisdiction after medical experts declared him fit for trial. Meanwhile, a magistrate court has remanded Kanu’s counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, and 12 others arrested during a protest against his detention, pending arraignment on 24 October.
