Statewide Plan to Boost Hygiene
THE Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) has commenced preparations for a special Ramadan health inspection exercise across all 44 Local Government Areas of the state. The initiative is aimed at promoting hygiene, strengthening sanitation practices, and safeguarding public health throughout the holy month.
The Director-General of the board, Prof. Salisu Ahmed-Ibrahim, disclosed this during a strategic coordination meeting held at the board’s headquarters in Kano. The session brought together local government Health Educators and Ward Environmental Health Officers who will spearhead the inspection at the grassroots level.
Strengthening Coordination and Preparedness
Ahmed-Ibrahim explained that the engagement was designed to enhance coordination and ensure that field officers are adequately prepared before the commencement of the exercise. He stressed that the inspection would focus on maintaining high sanitation standards in communities, markets, food outlets, mosques, and other public spaces that experience increased activity during Ramadan.
According to him, the initiative aligns with the public health and sanitation agenda of Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, whose administration has prioritised preventive healthcare and environmental cleanliness.
“The success of this exercise depends on effective supervision, ethical engagement, and professionalism in protecting public health during Ramadan and beyond,” Ahmed-Ibrahim stated. He urged officers to carry out their duties responsibly while respecting host communities.
Professionalism and Capacity Building
The Director-General emphasised that the conduct of health and environmental officers in the field reflects not only the standards of the board but also the integrity of the current administration. He reaffirmed the board’s commitment to structured training and retraining programmes to enhance inspection effectiveness and service delivery.
He added that continuous professional development would equip personnel with modern inspection techniques and strengthen compliance with public health regulations.
Participants at the meeting agreed on strategies to prevent disease outbreaks, improve hygiene awareness, and ensure a healthier environment throughout Ramadan. The exercise, officials said, is expected to reinforce public confidence in the state’s proactive approach to community health management.
