Jubilation As Oborevwori Inaugurates Omadino Model Technical College

THERE was excitement in Omadino, Warri South Local Government Area, on Monday as Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, inaugurated the newly completed Model Technical College — a major investment in skills-based and vocational education in the state.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Oborevwori said technical and vocational education remained one of the strongest tools for tackling youth unemployment, adding that graduates of the college would emerge not just as job seekers, but as skilled professionals, entrepreneurs and future employers.
He said the project reflected his administration’s commitment to prudent financial management, noting that several landmark projects had been completed within two years without borrowing or placing additional financial burdens on Deltans.
“Even I am amazed at how much we have achieved without borrowing. This institution is a clear example of prudent management. Contractors were paid promptly, and delivery was timely,” he stated.
The governor revealed that academic activities had already commenced before the inauguration, a sign of the college’s readiness and full operational capacity. He described the facility as a major step forward in strengthening technical education under his MORE Agenda.
The college features internal road networks, administrative blocks, modern classrooms, laboratories and well-equipped technical workshops — infrastructure the governor said reflected clarity of vision and disciplined execution.
Oborevwori also acknowledged former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for initiating the project and reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to expand access to quality, functional education across the state. He urged staff, students and the host community to ensure proper maintenance of the facility.
Commissioner for Technical Education, Mr. Smart Ufoh, described the Model Technical College as more than a modern school, calling it “a bold statement of purpose” and a symbol of Delta’s transformation agenda.
The college houses 12 classrooms, nine fully equipped workshops, two student hostels, staff quarters, a principal’s lodge and a corps members’ lodge. It also has a dining hall, clinic, a large school hall, and recreation facilities including a football pitch and basketball court.
Ufoh said the first set of students — Junior Technical One — was admitted in September 2025, with overwhelming interest from the community and surrounding areas.
Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, described the commissioning as another milestone in the governor’s transformational efforts, which include the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges, expanded road networks, improved drainage systems and the near-completed Warri Modern Stadium.
He praised the governor for fairness and inclusive development across all senatorial districts and communities, expressing the support of Warri South people ahead of 2027.
The Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, also thanked the governor for prioritising development in riverine communities and urged him to sustain investments in schools, roads, bridges and jetties.
Speaking on behalf of students, Miss Courtney Omotoyine said the inauguration fulfilled a long-awaited dream and marked a turning point for young people seeking technical and vocational skills. She appealed to students to use the facilities responsibly and strive for excellence.
Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme; Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; and Speakers of the Edo, Bayelsa and Anambra State Houses of Assembly.
