Annie Idibia: “I’ve Been Through Hell From A Very Young Age”

POPULAR Nigerian actress, Annie Idibia, has opened up about her difficult childhood and early struggles. In a heartfelt post shared via her verified Instagram page, the Nollywood star and wife of music legend Innocent “2Baba” Idibia reflected on her life growing up and the challenges she had to overcome.
Sharing a video collage of her childhood photos, Annie revealed that she experienced extreme hardship and took on adult responsibilities from a very young age. She described her early life as “hell” and praised her younger self for never giving up despite all odds.
“Looking at the beautiful young Annie in these pictures is lovely. I am so proud of you. I want to give you a big warm hug. You have been through all sorts of hell from a very young age, with so many responsibilities. That girl never gave up (never will still),” she wrote.
Annie recalled how, while attending secondary school, she could not enjoy regular breaks like other students. Instead, she had to sneak out during break times to help her mother, who was a cook, run a pepper soup business in front of their modest home in Mobil Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos.
“From SS1, she never knew what it felt like to go on ‘break time’ like other kids because that was when she sneaked out of school to rush to the market. She had to buy her mother’s pepper soup ingredients and cook after school until her mom returned from work around 7 pm.”
Despite the pressure and exhaustion, Annie said she remained optimistic, hardworking, and academically sound. She mentioned her strength in subjects like Mathematics and Physics and how she always greeted customers with a smile, even when life was tough.
“Yet she always had a bright smile while serving customers. She was so good at mathematics and physics. She had big dreams and a heart full of love. The universe kept blessing her.”
Annie ended her post with a touching message to her younger self, expressing gratitude for her resilience and focus.
“I want to thank me for never giving up. For all the ‘NOs’ I didn’t allow to discourage me. I want to thank me for being aggressive with my dreams. Girl, you’ve come a long way. You have done well. Adulthood is still the hardest. But whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
Her story has since resonated deeply with fans and admirers, many of whom took to the comment section to praise her strength, courage, and authenticity.
POPULAR Nigerian actress, Annie Idibia, has revealed that she has been through hell from a very young age. The actress shared some of her experiences while growing up, stating that she had it rough.
The celebrated screen diva and wife of Nigeria’s legendary singer, 2baba, while sharing a video collage of her pictures growing up via her verified Instagram page, took to the caption section to reveal some of the hardship she faced growing up in their ‘Boys Quarters house in Mobil, VI’
Patting herself on the back, Idibia said, “Looking at the beautiful young Annie in these pictures is lovely. I am so proud of you. I want to give you a big warm hug. You have been through all sorts of hell from a very young age, with so many responsibilities from so young. That girl never gave up (never will still).”
She further revealed that since she got to SS1 in her secondary school, she never enjoyed break time like other students as she had to sneak out of school to carry on with her mother’s side business.
The actress continued, “From SS 1, she never knew what it felt like to go on ‘break time’ like other kids in school because that was when she sneaks out of school to rush to the market (the very old gateman, he was definitely in his 50s, became her friend), to buy her mother’s pepper soup ingredients that she would have to cook after school and sell in front of their Boys Quarters in Mobil, VI.
“She will wait till her single mother gets off work by 7 pm to take over from her (mom was a cook) those hours before 7 pm were the longest ever because she would have only a few hours left to study and do her homework before bedtime.”
The filmmaker mentioned that despite all she went through at the time, she always wore a smile. Moreso, she bragged that when it came to her academics, she was an ace student in mathematics and physics.
“Yet she always had a bright smile while serving their customers. She was so good at mathematics and physics. If you had ever met her. She always had a big bright smile to give with dreams way bigger than her (so I thought). The universe always had a way of constantly blessing her. She had so much love inside, so much love to give. Love so deep and unconditional.”
Idibia seized the opportunity to thank herself for never giving up, saying, “I want to thank me for never giving up on me. For all the NOs I did not allow to discourage me and lose focus. I want to thank me for being so aggressive with my dreams and what I wanted. I want to thank me. I want to hug you, young Annie.
“Girl, you have come a long way. and you have done well (aspiring to do better and wiser). Adulthood is still the hardest. The saying, ‘whatever doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger,’ is the true interpretation of the life of this girl; now a strong woman! I have not even started, just only scratching the surface now.”
