Governor Uzodinma Meets Air Force Chief, Vows To Strengthen Security In Imo
THE Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has pledged to improve security across the state and remove those he described as “unrepentant bad eggs.”
The governor made this known after a meeting with Air Vice-Marshal Frank Okpara, who visited him in Owerri.
Uzodinma shared the update on his official Facebook page, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to working closely with security agencies.
During their meeting, the governor and the Air Force chief discussed ways to improve the security of lives and property in Imo State. Governor Uzodinma stated that their talks focused on enhancing professional conduct among security forces while tackling criminal elements.
“We are working to flush out bad actors who continue to cause trouble. I remain optimistic that security will continue to improve across Imo State,” Uzodinma said.
The governor also announced new plans to boost education and healthcare in the state. He revealed that discussions are ongoing to establish an Air Force Secondary School in Imo to support the state’s education system and give residents a stronger sense of inclusion.
He also requested that the Air Force Hospital in Owerri be fully equipped to offer better healthcare services to both the host community and the wider state population.
The South-East region, including Imo State, has faced security challenges linked to agitations by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was returned to Nigeria in 2021 after fleeing the country while on bail in 2017.
Since Kanu’s detention, IPOB has continued to issue Monday sit-at-home orders, which have disrupted businesses and daily life in the region.
His family and legal team claim he was abducted in Kenya, tortured, and brought back to Nigeria unlawfully—allegations the Nigerian government has denied.
Governor Uzodinma assured residents that his administration remains committed to peace and development. He called for unity and continued support from the public and security agencies.
“We will keep working with our partners in the military and beyond to make Imo safer and better for everyone,” he added.
