INEC Alerts Nigerians To Phishing Scam Over 2026 Recruitment

INEC Raises Alarm Over Fake Recruitment Portal
THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned Nigerians against a fraudulent recruitment website circulating online, describing it as fake, misleading and unauthorised.
In a notice posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) platform on Saturday, the Commission distanced itself from a link being widely shared under the title “INEC Ad-hoc Staff Recruitment 2026.”
INEC said it neither approved nor originated the website and urged members of the public to exercise caution.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wishes to inform the general public that the website currently circulating as ‘INEC Ad-hoc Staff Recruitment 2026’ is fake, misleading, and not authorised by the Commission,” the statement read.
Public Advised Not to Submit Personal Details
The Commission specifically warned Nigerians against submitting personal or sensitive information on the fraudulent platform.
It stated clearly that it did not approve or originate the link being shared online and stressed that any interaction with the site could expose individuals to identity theft or other cyber-related risks.
“Members of the public are strongly advised not to submit personal information on the said website,” INEC said.
The electoral body reiterated that all legitimate recruitment exercises would only be announced through its verified communication channels.
“All official recruitment information will be communicated exclusively through INEC’s verified website and official communication channels,” it added.
Official Recruitment Channel Clarified
INEC further reminded Nigerians that its ad-hoc staff recruitment is conducted strictly through its recognised portal known as INECPRES.
Earlier in January, the Commission had emphasised that it does not carry out recruitment through unofficial links or third-party websites.
The warning comes amid heightened online activity ahead of future electoral preparations, a period often exploited by fraudsters targeting job seekers and prospective ad-hoc staff.
The Commission urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, disregard the circulating link, and verify recruitment information only through its official platforms.
For further enquiries or clarification, members of the public were advised to contact the Commission through its dedicated phone lines: 0905-085-8629, 0905-085-8675, and 0905-085-8649.
